Lead Air Separation Engineer

Location: Baku, Azerbaijan Industry: Metals / Heavy Industry / Industrial Gases We are looking for a highly experienced Lead Air Separation Engineer to join a major industrial project in Azerbaijan. The role will be responsible for the technical leadership, design, operation, commissioning, and optimization of cryogenic Air Separation Units (ASU) and associated systems. Key Responsibilities: Provide technical leadership for cryogenic Air Separation Units (ASU), including air compression, purification, cryogenic distillation, product storage and distribution. Lead and manage process and plant engineers involved in ASU design, operation, and optimization. Oversee integrated design of ASU systems, including compressors, molecular sieve purification, cold boxes, distillation columns, turboexpanders, and liquid storage. Perform/review process simulation, material & heat balances, energy-efficiency studies, hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, and plant performance analysis. Lead technical specification and evaluation of key ASU equipment. Participate in HAZOP, SIL and process safety studies. Support construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and performance testing. Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of process and equipment issues. Coordinate with EPC contractors, licensors, equipment vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams. Mandatory Requirements Education Degree in Low Temperature Physics (Cryogenics) or Cryogenic Engineering / Cryogenic Plants. Experience 7–14 years of relevant engineering experience. Hands-on experience in an Air Separation Unit (ASU) / Air Separation Plant is mandatory; OR hands-on experience in the production of nitrogen, oxygen, or argon. Strong knowledge of cryogenic processes, air separation technologies, and industrial gas production. Experience in ASU design, operation, commissioning/start-up, process optimization, and equipment sizing. Experience with Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or equivalent process simulation software. Previous experience leading engineering teams or technical disciplines is required. Language English proficiency is mandatory. Azerbaijani, Russian, or Mandarin would be an advantage.
